May 3, 2008 (Sawf News) - The opening response to the much hyped Star TV reality show, Paanchvi Pass…, hosted by Shah Rukh Khan, hasn't been overwhelming, but Star honchos prefer to look upon the 4.61 TAM rating as a glass half full, rather than half empty.
One obvious explanation for the tepid response, and the optimism of Star honchos, is the ongoing IPL series.
"The response of the show has been extremely good," Prem Kamath, Star India VP marketing and communication, told Mumbai Mirror. "The TRP ratings are 4.7 on the first day which is ahead of IPL. There has been 142 per cent growth in the slot ratings."
The IPL matches will end on June 1, but even then Paanchvi Pass… may not see a surge in its ratings, because Sony's reality game show, Das Ka Dum, hosted by Salman Khan, will then go on the air.
Clearly, the battle ahead will be long drawn and debilitating, something TV channel honchos are not yet ready to admit.
Interestingly, Shah Rukh's Kaun Banega Crorepati 2, in 2007, opened with a TAM rating of 12.33.
