The Madras High Court on Wednesday dismissed a writ petition filed by Tamil star Kushboo, seeking to quash 26 cases filed against her in various lower courts in Tamil Nadu.
Justice R Regupathy transferred all cases to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's court in Egmore and directed that the trial be completed in six months.
The controversial actress faces as many as 26 cases, filed by various pro-Tamil outfits, for her remarks allegedly denigrating Tamil women in an interview on pre-marital sex to a national magazine in September 2005.
That’s not the end of troubles for Kushboo. Late last year the actress was accused of “wearing chappals" in front of idols of goddesses at a film muhurat in Chennai.
Gurumurthy, a Hindu Munnani activist, had lodged a complaint before a civil court in Kumbakonam alleging that Kushboo was seen sitting with her chappals in front of idols of goddeses Lakshmi, Saraswathy and Parvathy during pooja on November 22.
