The most notable part of this picture is the belly button piercing. I can’t think of any other garment that would allow you to show off the belly button piercing more than saree would, but I don’t see it as often.

This is a very interesting and attractive saree and combo works very well. The lady knows her fashion for sure.
Gold embroidery, sequins and beads give the saree a richness and depth. The blouse is very contemporary and the small embroidery goes well; no necklace to distract you and a gold bag that goes with the gold saree border.

Bollywood actress Bipasha Basu. Bipasha looks lovely and demure in a baby blue Georgette Sari. The simple sleeve less blouse has matching trim around the neckline. The shiny blue bangles add a shimmer to the outfit.

I have heard of stories where people talked about transparent sarees made in 1800’s, where the fabric was so sheer that the saree can be passed through the eye of the needle.
OK, the fabric here is not that sheer; but it is transparent for sure.
I would have really liked this saree, except for the red and blue blouse cups. I don’t know what to make of that.
For a minute, I thought it was the lighting that made the cups look different color but I see that it is by design; and I just hate it. What a shame! this could have been the most elegant of sarees!

Rituparna Sengupta - well what can we say other than what every one else says - the woman is hot! Here she is wearing a sizzling red sari with a low backed blouse. The come hither look in her eyes is strangely at odds with the heavy sindur - but it all makes for a mesmerizing picture!

Kareena Kapoor needs a new designer, or at least a personal clothing shopper. Her saris are quite atrocious, this one included! What’s with those oversized motifs on the tomato red sari with the ugly cream and silver border?? We have yet to see Kareena look elegant in a sari. If you have, send us a picture or link!

Coordinated Silver accessories, jewelry and the the blouse is very stunning.

Soha Ali Khan in lavender saree

Soha gets compared to mom Sharmila and for good reason. Soha herself takes great pains to look like Sharmila did in the 60s and 70s. And here she is wearing a simple blue sari with a vintage look blouse. Interestingly, half of the blouse matches the border of the sari, while the puffed sleeves are in a totally contrasting paisley print in maroon and green.
Interestingly, we found a picture of Sharmila (below) similarly peeking over her shoulder. Except that Sharmila is not wearing a sari, but a rather hot ensemble of tight hipster pants and cropped top!

This is a very interesting sari blouse design that Rani is wearing. The sari has a more traditional Rajasthani print on georgette, with subtle silver embellishments. The blouse looks like a combination of traditional colors, 60’s rock, and contemporary design. The traditional print border on the sleeves is offset with a retro polka dot print that shows off the back in a dramatic plunging neckline, ending in a show off bow in the back. And Rani’s beautiful face in silhouette with a simple pair of oversized hoop earrings completes the picture!

I know I have said that Urmila would look good in anything - but folks, even anything has an upper bound…. This is a pretty stale looking tan brown sari with flat looking embroidery. To make matters worse the blouse is in a shade of mustard, and at odds with the color of the sari. And the jewelry - lets just say that it is supposed to be choker - not “choke her”. I don’t know how Urmila is even managing to breathe under that tumble of pearls. And we won’t even get into the red nail polish and the virtue of wearing neutral shades if you are not going to match your nails with your outfit. So is there anything nice to be said? Well, Urmila’s pretty face almost makes up for the rest of the mess.

Vidya Balan’s face suggests freshness and innocence, and this sari color is perfect for her. Hanging between a sky blue and turquoise, the sari has a certain fresh appeal to it, even if it is a trifle busy with the embroidery. I am not sure if I like the chunky beads though. Vidya would have looked super with a delicate silver filigree set.

Lara also has a quick silver quality where she looks very different from one picture to the next. Here she looks demure in a green sari with self color shadow work and a shiny green blouse. The traditional dangling earrings are just perfect!

She probably decided that she doesn’t want to add more fuel to the “above the navel” or “below the navel” debate, she will add more gold to the debate instead, hoping that no body would notice.

Beautiful saree and spaghetti strap blouse. I think she can update her blouse a bit more, especially for a transparent saree as we have mentioned before, but we can talk about that at some other time.
What I want to point out here is, how to accessorize. Her earrings and her rings match the secondary color of the saree, perfect. the earrings and the rings, both have large matching pearls.
And the most important accessory that she is wearing, and it looks good on her, and it is an accessory that many woman forget to match, is that she has a good looking Sri KLM, which stands for (Kala, lamba, sundar - literal transaltion of Mr. tall, dark and handsom as referred to by a non-desi friend) on her side. Also notice that the Mr. accessory, who is perfectly color coordinated to Aishwarya’s outfit, is wearing colors similar to her saree and pallu (ivory tie would have been better, but white is good enough).
Just kidding… they make a cute couple and because of the silly Manglik issues and all that, I am hoping that they remain absolutely happy and in blissful marriage for a long long time, so one can point to this couple and say that, look, she was Manglik and they lived happily ever after, just like in a fairy tale.

Here are some tips that we gleaned on sexy ways of wearing a sari from watching Celina.
If you are going to wear a plunging neckline in front, why spoil it with a tightly wrapped pallu? There is no law against draping the pallu cleverly low across the chest, and pinning on the left side so that a nice cleavage can be shown off to advantage! Here’s Celina showing how that’s done.

One of these days I will compile some of the most unusual and sensuous and sexy saree drapes.
Saree is the only garment that takes the form of the person wearing it; ok tube-top does that too, but let’s not go there.

This has to be one of the most unusual and most revealing sexiest saree drape that exist!
As I have mentioned several times, the saree is 5,000+ years old but the blouse is a very recent phenomena.

Is it just me or I am noticing more and more of the Bhandej sarees with Bandhini designs these days.
I have a special liking for Bandhini designs; it reminds me of beautiful, simple and charming gujarati folks, I love the bright color and I love the techniques of making the design.
So I am a little biased when a genre that I like is updated and made popular again.
Notice that other than the variation is color, the saree is pretty simple, unlike the saree that Celina Jaitly is wearing. There is some embellishment in the blouse but not so much that it detract from the ‘down to earth” character of the saree.
Mangalsutra she is wearing is a nice touch too; but then she is trying to put sindoor in her part to convey devotion to her husband, so it all makes sense.

I know the border has some orange in it; probably to add some splash to the saree, but that doesn’t mean that you should add orange lining to it!
A bright color lining was in vogue a while ago and at times it looks really good, but not with pallu. If one had bright colors on inside pleats, that would make sense, but pallu, which can fall multiple ways, one should keep it free of gimmicks.

I know this is not a sari but the outfit has been draped very cleverly to resemble a sari. For one, it is made out of an earthen colored tanchoi sari, with a burnished gold border and embellished along the front with toned down jari work.
The composition is beautiful. The earthy tones of the kaftan are matched by the clay hues of the walls, and the terracotta foot stool on which Julia is sitting. The bare feet, flyaway auburn hair and the neutral colored hoop earrings all add to the natural composition of the picture.

The 39-year-old actress is a “global ambassador” for YouthAIDS, a worldwide HIV/AIDS education and prevention effort. Ashley recently told press, “There is an extraordinary, compelling, urgent problem.”
On Nov. 30, the National Geographic Channel and nonprofit organization Cable Positive will premiere a new film India’s Hidden Plague, which features Judd. The special will be available nationally via video on demand.

Mandira -Mera bai notout in Saree

Normally you have spaghetti strap blouse, or sometimes referred to as noodle strap blouse, but at times the blouse strap is thinner than the spaghetti and that is what I call “angel hair pasta strap” blouse.
Come to think of it, I should call it Vermicelli strap or spaghettini strap! There is something wrong with this picture - I shouldn’t get hungry or get an urge to eat Italian food when discussing designs of a garment!
The green part of the saree in not clear here, but the saree has a lot more green in the pallu but the magenta border to bracket the saree looks kind of interesting.
Mandira Bedi here at American Chamber of Commerce Award; she is such a doll!

Dia Mirza was at Barcelona for the screening of her short film ‘Zahir’ at 3 GSM World Congress. After she was ready to head for a press conference, she called in the housekeeper of the hotel to make the bed and clean the room. The moment the housekeeper stepped in, she was so shocked to see a lady wearing a saree that she screamed at the top of her voice and ran out.
“Initially, I was a little taken aback and peered harder at the mirror. But later I realized that she hasn’t seen a lady in a sari before. They kept exclaiming in Spanish! They were quite overwhelmed and even wanted to touch and feel the sari,” offers Dia. Now, that’s what our saree does to the rest of the world!

Rakhi took everyone by surprise when she managed to rope in the perfectionist Bollywood actor Aamir Khan for the talk show. She says it’s going to the spiciest show about Bollywood. Rakhi says after roping in Aamir as her first guest on the show other stars will not throw tantrums. Rakhi is confident that her show will set the TRP ratings soaring.

I love this saree; I love the corset blouse and I love the color combination of silver and different shades of blue.
I am growin fond of some of the styles that Rakhi showcases; she is pushing the design boundries or may be more appropriately; she is redrawing the design lines.
