Aishwarya, Angelina may have common ancestors

Top actors Aishwarya Rai and Angelina Jolie may have common ancestors. If a research is to be believed all people with blue eyes can trace their ancestry back to one person who probably lived about 10,000 years ago in the Black Sea region.


Scientists studying the genetics of eye colour at the University of Copenhagen found that more than 99.5 per cent of blue-eyed people who volunteered to have their DNA analysed have the same tiny mutation in the gene that determines the colour of the iris.

Professor Hans Eiberg of the university said he has analysed the DNA of about 800 people with blue eyes, ranging from fair-skinned, blond-haired Scandinavians to dark-skinned, blue-eyed people living in Turkey and Jordan.

"All of them, apart from possibly one exception, had exactly the same DNA sequence in the region of the OCA2 gene. This to me indicates very strongly that there must have been a single, common ancestor of all these people," he said.

Deepika ditches Farah for Yuvraj

Deepika Padukone has all the time in the world for Yuvraj Singh but she doesn't have any time for Farah Khan, who gave the newbie her big break in films.

According to an insider from the Om Shanti Om camp, "Farah is irked with Deepika's ungrateful attitude. She has not kept in touch after the release of the film. The OSO girl hasn't spoken to Farah for a couple of months except sending a SMS on her birthday (January 9)."This is the way of the world. If Shahrukh was ignoring me, I would have felt very hurt. It's true that Deepika has not kept in touch since OSO's release. Her parents, Prakash Padukone and wife sent me a thank-you letter after watching the film. I was very touched. I last met Deepika during the OSO book launch on November 14. I guess she"s been busy with shooting and travelling all over the world.

I read she was in Australia watching the cricket match, and shooting for Yash Raj's film. She's busy enjoying life, I guess, and basking in the glory. In any case, I am faltu right now (Farah's expecting triplets next week). I won't be directing any film for at least a year."

Amongst the OSO cast, apparently only Deepika hasn't kept in touch. Farah says, "Arjun (Rampal) and Shreyas (Talpade) regularly keep in touch. Fortunately, most of the stars I've worked with Zayed (Khan), Amrita (Rao), and Sunil (Shetty) still come and visit me years after Main Hoon Naa.

I find it amusing that Deepika hasn't kept in touch. I have seen it happening so many times in the film industry you give a break to a newbie and she/he forgets you when they become big."

Apart from Deepika, the only actress who hasn't been in contact is Sushmita Sen. The mommy-to-be adds, "Sush doesn't keep in touch with anybody so it's not just me. Right now she's busy with her home production, but Sush is a darling so warm and gracious.

Deepika was unavailable for comment but a friend of the actress clarifies, "There is no problem between them. Deepika has been in touch with Farah over SMS."

Comedy is the flavor of the season and the next two weeks will witness the release of the two comic fares, one after the other. While Sunday is a thriller cum comedy based film which cast Ayesha Takia and Ajay Devgan in the lead. The music is already released and is getting a good response.

Another film that might turn out to be a surprise, if at the lady luck favors is Rama Rama Kya Hain Dramaa. This film is a story of three couples Anupam Kher- Rati agnihotri , Aashish chowdary- Amrita Arora and Rajpal Yadav-Neha Dhupia; the film has a few hilarious moments that make the audience tickle and also flex their facial muscles.
The film highlights Rajpal Yadav and Neha Dhupia on screen chemistry, the warning couple. The constant fights, arguments and bickering give the film an interesting twist. Also, Rajpal’s overactive imagination as he imagines, other people’s wives as his-is interesting to be seen on the screen.
Sunday is all set to be realesed, the coming Friday and the film titled Rama rama Kya hain Dramaa will be released in the theatres on February 1st.

Sushmita Sen’s no-nonsense attitude

Sushmita Sen may not have been commercially as successful as her contemporaries, but the lady sure is known for her determination and no-nonsense attitude. Recently, Sush returned the signing amount of Rs.2.1 million to producer Vijay Galani who had signed her up for a movie on the ground that she did not get a detailed script of the movie on time as she had been promised.

The actress had initially agreed to do the movie to be directed by Dharmesh Darshan after hearing its narration from the director in August last year. When she was paid advance money out of her total fee of Rs.10.25 million, it was agreed that a bound script would be sent to her in November.

But instead of a script, what she received was a piece of paper in which the director had briefly outlined her role in the movie. Moreover, the role therein was totally different from the one briefed out to her earlier.

Moreover, with Sush backing out from the project, Govinda, the movie’s leading man, also walked out of it saying without the actress playing the female lead, the whole concept of the movie would change. And he would not like that.

Sherlyn Chopra to do the bedroom act for a noble cause

Sherlyn Chopra who displayed her outrageous side with her music album ‘Outrageous’ is now set for a noble cause but not without her sensuous image. Yes, the gal will wield whips and chains not to realize some kinky fantasy, but to do an ad for PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals).

According to PETA India’s chief functionary Anuradha Sawhney, the ad will feature Sherlyn in a Victoria’s Secret kind of outfit on a set that would resemble a bedroom. Sherlyn would wield whips and chains in the ad.

The theme of the ad, conceptualized by PETA, would be, “whips and chains should be left to the bedroom and not used on animals in circus.”

Saif Ali Khan - The rocking star

Saif Ali Khan is rocking these days, both professionally and personally. With the name of her lady love, Kareena Kapoor, tattooed on his hand (The tattoo goes Kareena in Devanagri script), Chhote Nawab has other new ventures on too. After hotting up the stage in Capital and down South in Bangalore, he has performed live at the Andheri Sports Complex on Sunday with India Rock and Roll Band, ‘Parikrama’. Saif had developed a passion for guitar and rock music at an early age of 13 when he was at the boarding school in the UK.

All the Saif-Parikrama concerts are being held in Jan and Feb 2008. Saif says, “I’ll rehearse in Alibaug. We’ll play in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Bangalore. My shootings won’t be affected because I’ll be rehearsing on the weekends. This is something I want to do. It gives me a great high to be on the stage playing and singing.”

John And Ash To Set The Screen On Fire

Aishwarya to be paired opposite Rajnikant in Robot?

If sources are to be believed Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be paired opposite Rajnikant in Shankar’s forthcoming film Robot . Shankar who created box office history with his last release Sivaji - The Boss had been to Mumbai recently to meet Aishwasrya Rai.

According to a source the South based filmmaker was in Mumbai for few days to meet Aishwarya. He came in the first week of January and discussed the script and her role with Ash. “Aishwarya has gone through the script before joining Abhishek who is shooting for Dilli 6 in Rajasthan. Even though she has gone through the narration, she is yet to decide about Robot .” says a source.

It believed that Shankar wants Robot to be bigger than Sivaji - The Boss . The film is said to be backed by the Hollywood giant Sony Pictures who are planning to make it a 100 crore budgeted project. It has also learnt that Rajnikant and Shankar are keen to co-produce Robot together.

South King Rajnikant has given his nod to the project after Bollywood’s Badshah Shah Rukh Khan denied it. Now director Shankar wants a big actress opposite Rajnikant. Since the movie is going to be in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu Shankar feels Aishwarya will be apt for it as she has already done south films.

That’s Saif Ali Khan, the rocker. Fireworks went up as the lead guitarist of Parikrama introduced him as “Someone you’d want to take off your clothes for even before we announce his name”.

Thankfully, that didn’t happen. But the moment Saif entered, the crowds started clamouring to get a better view of the action on stage. Dressed in a red T-shirt and blue jeans, Saif didn’t exactly create hysteria, or even the ‘mayhem’ the event promoters anticipated. But he did have the women going berserk. “We’ve spoken enough. Now let’s play some music,” Saif shouted into the microphone. And he played Pink Floyd, AC/DC and a few Parikrama compositions.

Cut to 4pm, when Saif reached the venue, his stylised moustache grown for the forthcoming Tashan was visible.

That surprisingly was missing when he performed on stage, possibly following instructions from Aditya Chopra to keep his new look under wraps.

The much talked-about tattoo wasn’t showing either, though it was captured on camera much later. After exchanging pleasantries with the Parikrama band members for no more than five minutes, Saif returned to his shell, leaving eager photographers waiting patiently for the photoshoot. Saif, they were told, was practising backstage.

In the evening, the media (only news channels) was alloted all of seven minutes with the star before they were hastily shooed away by the event managers.

That, in fact, was the real mayhem! The rest of the media was promised a separate time that never arrived. And Saif was missing too. No one had a clue where he had disappeared.

Cricketers Robin Uthappa and Sree Santh came instead, urging the crowd to give the performers a true Bangalore welcome.

Saif performed and then said, “They are asking us to stop playing. Can’t we play one more song?”

Someone in the crowd said, “Why didn’t he come earlier then?” But the audience did get one more song, after which Saif disappeared quicker than anyone we’ve seen exit a stage!

For Goal, John was trained by the best football choreographer in the world Andy Ansah. Says John, “All the international Adidas ads have been done by Andy. To have got him for Goal was like a prized catch. I was working with people like Arshad, Boman and Bipasha whom I love…So it was fun.”

John hopes to re-position his image as an actor. “I want to cultivate a sporty image after Goal. Hence, I’m also doing a mountain climbing film. I’m a trained footballer -I used to play ‘A’ position soccer-and I’m a certified mountain climber.

Saif to fans: Practice safe sex

Saif Ali Khan didn’t just play the guitar along with rock band Parikrama, but also delighted fans by taking to the microphone at the crowded Andheri Sports Complex in Mumbai.

The actor Sunday dished out covers of popular international artistes along with lead vocalist Nitin Malik, lead guitarist Sonam Sherpa and the rest of the Parikrama band.

Saif, who in Mallik’s words turns to music for "the pure love of music and nothing else", had Mumbai’s 1,000-strong-crowd screaming for more.

He played Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple that he said got him to play the electric guitar. Also on his play list were AC/DC’s Highway to Hell and Pink Floyd’s Run Like Hell.

Seated amidst the crowd was Saif’s daughter, to whom he dedicated Chuck Berry’s Johnny B. Goode. Malik and Saif also sang AC/DC’s Whole Lotta Rosie and The Doors’ Roadhouse Blues.

Earlier in the evening, Pakistani band Strings took centre stage. They dished out numbers like Akhri Alvida off their newly acquired Gibson 500. They also doled out a Bollywood medley that had the crowd grooving.


"We loved performing in Mumbai, the crowd was great. We believe music has the power to bring the two countries together," said Strings member Bilal Maqsood.

Strings also had enthusiastic female fans pulled up on stage to belt out vocals but the girls lingered on the stage much to the crowd’s annoyance.

The enthralling evening came to an end with these last words from Saif: "God bless you all, take care and have safe sex."

The trio’s next performance is in Kolkata Jan 25 and Delhi Jan 27.
